Lesson 10: The BaSIS Framework™
The BaSIS Framework is a one-page, holistic model, of the general ledger within an accounting system. By having all of the key structural and linguistic elements on the one page, it is much easier for the student to understand the essential duality of accounting, and how the fundamental five elements connect.
The BaSIS Framework encourages the student, and the teacher, to use 'pointability': is it here (pointing at Assets) or here (pointing at Expenses)? - it's one or the other!
The use of coded-colour makes it visually appealing and memorable while remaining true to how double-entry accounting works. Later, when the Structure, Language and Movement aspects are fully understood, it is very easy for the student to switch from the use of colour to the traditional terms of debit and credit.
In the following video, Peter Frampton walks us through an explanation of Expenses, and at the end, explains each of the other 5 elements in terms of its relationship with the Assets element.
